Sample Clue

This was the first clue from GothamQuest I. The landmark that is represented by this clue is the BROOKLYN BRIDGE. The poem includes the following key passages:

1. The "King of the Western Hemisphere" was a term used in the late 19th Century/early 20th Century to describe Brooklyn. The corresponding "beautiful Island Queen" is, naturally, Manhattan. The "wedding" of the two is the bridge that binds these two lands - the Brooklyn Bridge.
   

2. "...their bond has never been broken, since their marriage in '83...": This was meant to throw some teams slightly off the scent. In fact, "'83" actually referred to 1883 (not 1983) - the year in which the construction of the bridge was completed.
   

3. "...a beautiful, unwavering union...": again, another representation of the bridge concept and its solid expanse.
   

4. "...Its builder had dreamed of its creation, walked its long path before there was one. He succumbed before its realization (father's work completed by the son). It took 13 long years to build it, a feat worthy of admiration...": These statements refer to the work of the principal builder - John Roebling.
   

5. "...the City's most awesome alliteration...": Refers to the "Bs" in Brooklyn Bridge.
   

6. "...Granite and Steel...": a poem written to honor the construction of the bridge.
   

7. "...a double rainbow, as if inverted by French perspicacity, John Roebling's monument...": lines from Granite and Steel...the double rainbow refers to the bridge's span, as does the concept of the "rainbow" being inverted. Including the name John Roebling gave racers the opportunity to "google" his name at an Internet cafe. Had they done so, they surely would have uncovered the identity of this first landmark.
   

8. "...across from the Watchtower...": The race sentry was standing beside the bridge's western pillar (on the Manhattan side), directly across from the "Watchtower" in Brooklyn.
