Julius
Age: 57--and still not old enough to know better than
to compete in Gotham Quest
Occupation: Semi-retired high school English teacher
Relation to Dan/Dave: Long-time friends of Dave's mother
and father--and Gotham Quest is putting friendship to the test. Have known
Dave since he was a child. Remember waiting on lines at Great Adventure?
Why will you win? Because even losing will be fun!
Why will you lose? On purpose--just to make Dave's
parents look good.
Not including your team, which team stands the best chance of
winning? I should know these other teams?
What have you done to prepare for this race? Read
New York: A Guide to the Metropolis, New York Eats, New York Walks, The
Gotham Quest Primer, joined the NY Municipal Arts Society, interviewed
Mayor Bloomberg (twice), rented every movie Woody Allen ever directed--NOT,
NOT, NOT. I'm just trying to keep a clear head, trying to keep
from wondering why I ever signed up for this.
What do people tend to underestimate about you?
The degree to which I count on teammates
For those of you who did not enter last year’s race…
…do you have any idea what you signed up for?
As much of an idea as Emma and her son Dave can be trusted to give
What one song have you listened to the most in your lifetime?
Must be some song my partner Marie Ann sang--ask her.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up (and how
close did you come)? Really, a teacher--and real close these 38
years
In my dreams--a stage actor. Well, "all the world's
a stage"
What is the area of Manhattan that you know the best?
You're kidding. You want me to reveal what may be my trump card?
Who probably looks better naked – Dan or Dave (remind yourself
who is organizing the teams before writing your response)?
This question actually implies some compensation for my deteriorating sight.
Say something nice here about Dan and Dave:
Dan, I believe I met you just once--at Lindsay's graduation party.
You were sociable, gracious, easy and comfortable to be around. Dave--oh,
I just have 15 minutes--not enough time to think of something nice.
Seriously, you make your parents more and more proud--and their friends
more and more happy to know you (although Gotham Quest may put THIS
to the test, too).
Anything else you would like to say?
God no! I've already spent way too much time on this.

Marie Ann
Age: 54, but I really look like I am 24.
Well, maybe from a mile away.
Occupation: Marketing Consultant, but soon to be
"WINNER OF THE GOTHAM QUEST"
Relation to Dan/Dave: As of today, a close friend
of David's. Not sure if it will stay that way after October 13th.
Why will you win? What a stupid question.
Why will you lose? There ain't no way I'm gonna
lose...so get that straight!
Not including your team, which team stands the best chance of winning?
How can you ask such a question, when you know it is going to be my team!
What have you done to prepare for this race? Trained
for the triathlon and memorized the entire map of NYC. Oh yes, I
also memorized every card in the Mind Trap game.
What do people tend to underestimate about you?
Nothing, I'm perfect!
For those of you who did not enter last year’s race…
…do you have any idea what you signed up for?
You mean, I signed up for something?
What one song have you listened to the most in your lifetime?
"Walking Away a Winner" by Kathy Mattea
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up (and how close
did you come)? A Broadway Star. I did come very close.
I was a star with the Hoboken OLG Players. I mean, how much
closer can one get to BROADWAY?
What is the area of Manhattan that you know the best?
Pacific Heights...no...Knob Hill..no...???
Who probably looks better naked – Dan or Dave (remind yourself
who is organizing the teams before writing your response)?
I refuse to answer this question!
Say something nice here about Dan and Dave: I
will not!
Anything else you would like to say? What the hell
was I thinking when I agreed to do this race!
