Dan
Age: 29
Occupation: Pediatric dentist
Relation to Dan/Dave: I’m intimately related
with both
Why would you win? Because I know all of the destinations
Why would you lose? Because I do not remember the
order of the destinations
Which team stands the best chance of winning? Marcie
and James
What would you have done to prepare for this race?
TOO MUCH
What do people tend to underestimate about you?
How much I did contribute to this year’s race
What was the best part of the race for you?
Making finger sandwiches at 3 am the morning of the race
What advice would you give to this year’s new racers?
All the answers are simple, when it makes sense, it ALL makes sense.
What one song have you listened to the most in your lifetime?
Holiday- Madonna
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up (and how close
did you come)? A doughnut man- hmmm well if you eat lots of doughnuts
as a kid you will see me eventually!
What is the area of Manhattan that you know the best?
Washington Heights baby! Some people question whether it is in Manhattan,
and my answer is: IT IS MANHATTAN!
Who probably looks better naked – Dan or Dave (remind yourself
who is organizing the teams before writing your response)?
It is a tie!
Say something nice here about Dave: You are the
most giving, creative, inspiring person that I know. I am very fortunate
to have you in my life.
Anything else you would like to say? I keep my fingers
crossed for sanity’s sake there will be no Gotham Quest 3, however,
I am sure that October 14th will initiate planning for the event.

Dave
Age: 36
Occupation: Perhaps the most difficult question
of the bunch…for now, let’s say Wall Street analyst
Relation to Dan/Dave: Partner in life
Why would you win? This game was written as if I
were running it. If there is a heaven, this is what it will look like for
me on Saturdays.
Why would you lose? Sometimes I spin my wheels in
pressure situations, when expectations on me are pretty high.
Which team stands the best chance of winning? In
order, The Gator Bears (Marcie and James), The Cruel Townsmen (Bill and
Chris), Goodbye Diet Coke (Mom and Dad), and The Heidi-Hos (Lisa and Richie)…my
number 1 seeds. I do have one “darkhorse” pair, as well. Will
let you know who it is after the race.
What would you have done to prepare for this race?
For obvious reasons, I can’t answer this one.
What do people tend to underestimate about you?
Sadly, in my inner circle of friends, it is my handle of clinical medicine,
despite my vocational respite from the profession. Those of you who read
this might want to remember this when having medical-type discussions in
group settings or when filling out wedding invitations.
What was the best part of the race for you? The
smiles, the laughs and the breathlessness.
What advice would you give to this year’s new racers?
Use the resources available to you (they are all around you), and think
strategically.
What one song have you listened to the most in your lifetime?
Either “Killer” (Seal) or “Rhythm Nation” (Janet
Jackson). Not sure which I’ve spent more time doing - driving down
the 405 freeway in L.A. or push-ups.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up (and how close
did you come)? President of the U.S. (like Bill Ward from The
Cruel Townsmen). Aside from the “gay” thing, I’m gonna
guess that I have fewer skeletons than Bill. Not sure I want to do the
job anymore, though. I kinda like my anonymity and the relative lack of
an assassination fear. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.
What is the area of Manhattan that you know the best? The
area around our Midtown apartment (sadly). In 2008, it could be the unemployment
office.
Who probably looks better naked – Dan or Dave (remind yourself
who is organizing the teams before writing your response)?
Hmm. A very interesting question…are we age-adjusting?
Say something nice here about Dan: Thank you, baby,
for letting insanity reign and allowing me to paint my canvas. It’s
all that I have in my artistic tank.
Anything else you would like to say? To all those
who competed in last year’s race…THANK YOU for coming back
to do it all over again. You all knew how very special the day was –
a congregation of beautiful people (friends, family and strangers) in a
beautiful city on a most beautiful day. I hope that this year’s version
(while triply ambitious) remains just as spectacular and as fun as the
last one.
To all those who did NOT compete in last year’s race…THANK
YOU for joining our extended Quest family. You probably do not have a TOTAL
sense for what you signed up for this year. However, I suspect that you
will – the second you open the envelope for the first clue…It
happened this way the last time.
As Kevin from The Trashie Nashies put it, “enjoy every second of
it”. To all GQ II racers, I sincerely hope that you do. Let’s
get it on!
